I know this is a TV show and not a movie, and I don't care. It's one of my all time favorite shows and I will discuss it.
BBC's Sherlock has finally aired in the US, and so I can finally talk about it (I watched it as soon as I was able to get it online. Oops). No spoilers. As we all saw last season, our favorite consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes, played by the mighty Benedict Cumberbatch (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Star Trek: Into Darkness) fell to his demise and disgrace. We did get a sneak peak, though, at the cemetery, that he is indeed alive (This is not a spoiler. If he truly died, there wouldn't be a third season). Consequently, people throughout the world have waited eagerly for the last two years to find out how on earth he committed fake suicide. Last night was that night. Stephen Moffat and Mark Gatiss (Doctor Who) have fanboy'd themselves out on this one. A friend of mine described it as "a love story to the fans." I prefer to think that Moffat and Gatiss did research on tumblr. This show was entirely dedicated to the fans. There were fake explanations, fan clubs, and yes, even a Watson Mustache. Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, The Office UK) was spectacular in his role as Dr. John Watson, who is so relieved Sherlock is back that they go to three different restaurants to celebrate. Freeman stole the show from Cumberbatch with his incredibly honest reactions and quick wit, so that you almost have to pinch yourself to remember that he's just acting. Amanda Abbington, Freeman's real life partner, plays the clever and adventurous Mary, Watson's new fiance. I expected to hate her, knowing that she'll break up a perfect duo, but Abbington plays her role marvelously, and Gatiss left no room for the audience to do anything but love her.

This is truly a remarkable TV show, created by two of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's biggest fanboys, and I should get paid for how many people I've introduced to the club.
As Sir Conan Doyle once said, "If in 100 years I am only known as the man who invented Sherlock Holmes then I will have considered my life a failure."
